Help keep your coloured hair fresh and vibrant with these tips
from the experts.
Red is the hardest shade to keep vibrant as it’s fragile and fades easily, so to help preserve any coloured hair, it’s best to use a gentle shampoo that won’t strip the hair. Use a sulphate free version to avoid colour loss. The sun also strips colour pigment, so a hat is the best protection against fading.
Heat styling, sun, sea water, central heating all take their toll on our locks. Steer clear of excessive heat styling as this will leave hair dry and dull looking. Use a deep conditioning treatment twice a week to help restore moisture levels. If you’re on holiday, leave conditioner in your hair to help protect it.
The sun will lift your hair a few shades, which is great if you want that sunkissed look. If you swim lots and have highlights, then take care as the chemicals in pools can react with blonde highlights and give hair a green tinge. To get rid of this, use tomato ketchup on the hair for around 15-20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, then shampoo.
